Nursing Education In New Zealand

Nurse Assistant

To become an nurse assistant in New Zealand, you must:

  • Complete a Nursing Council-approved education programme (level four NZQA programme) from a Polytechnic, or Institute of Technology leading to Nurse Assistant qualification.
  • NB: Current nurse assistant programmes in New Zealand are restricted to care of the elderly endorsement.

To become a Mental Health Care Worker, Karitane/Kaiawhina (well child health worker), or trained Health Care Assistant you must complete the training programme required by your employer (usually an NZQA level 4 workplace qualification).
